Over 60's Lose Winning Habit....... Winscombe lost both Weston and District Over 60's league games this week. Both matches were to tough opposition Victoria being top of the league and Ashcombe Crusaders will now have leap frogged Winscombe into 2nd place as a result of their win.Captain Wilf Ainsworth away on jury service will not be best pleased........more
Bob Flay Trophy -Saturday 17th July.....On a sunny Saturday afternoon, Winscombe Ladies held their annual Bob Flay Trophy match in memory of one of Winscombe BC.favourite sons, Bob, who sadly passed away three years ago. Winners of the Trophy, presented by Mrs. Maureen Flay and son, Paul were Mrs. Lorna Whatling and Mrs. Sheila Nash. This was followed by a typically superb buffet laid on by Winscombe Ladies...more
Mens Open Triples -Sunday 11th July.....A Very successful day. 28 teams enjoyed the beautiful weather and fast green. The ladies provided great food throughout the day and the bar was ably manned by Big Mal and Little John our Club President. Winners were Street Bowling Club who just beat Tony Steer and the Banwell rink in the final. In the Runners up decider: Frome Select won against our own Winscombe Triple of Ronnie Wootten, Wilf Ainsworth and Paul Fredersdorff....more
Cup Matches .....In the North Somerset Cup WBC won by 10 shots at Congresbury. In the Over 60's Cup against St Andrews Spartans away WBC had another convincing win.. In the Wedmore Plate despite winning on 2 rinks each WBC lost by 11 shots to Nailsea ......More
SCL Matches ......Following the B Team's demise at Chew Stoke last week the A team tried their luck. They didnt have any ! Ronnie Wootten was the only winning rink (by 1 shot on the last end)...well done Malcolm Hunter. Tony Watts rink had the misfortune to give shots away on 3 consecutive ends which didnt help the cause and Andrew Watson came up against tough opposition. Overall the team lost by 12 shots but gained 2 points.......More
Notable Achievements......First County Match played at Winscombe 1929 Somerset vs Gloucestershire The Somerset side included four Winscombe members – J.K.Dunster, H.R.House,R.Weeks, H.Moore. 1929 Somerset recorded their only ever Turnbull Cup Victory beating Victoria by 4 shots in the final at Bristol.......More
